JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A convicted child molester has been sentenced to 220 years in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material and hacking the jumbotron at the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium after the team learned he was a registered sex offender and fired him.
A federal judge in Jacksonville sentenced 53-year-old Samuel Arthur Thompson, of St. Augustine, on Monday, according to court records. He was convicted in November of producing, receiving and possessing sexual images of children, producing such images while required to register as a sex offender, violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, sending unauthorized damaging commands to a protected computer and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

They also sentenced him to lifetime supervised release. He will be 240 years old when he begins his lifetime supervised release.
The FBI classifies him a “prolific child molester” in it’s press release. However, they list only five victims during his lifetime. One child was his original victim and the reason he is on the registry. Their investigation revealed four more victims over the last several years. This man has a problem but he’s not a “prolific child molester”. A ten year sentence would have been sufficient in this case.
What’s more unfortunate than this man’s behavior and judgement is that no one will help him challenge such a ridiculous prison sentence. So he has a life sentence. And I’m sure that he wasn’t able to get any other help before these acts. When you aren’t allowed to be a human you will act the part. Not always… but still. This is the solution of elected imbeciles to a complex problem. Kudos Florida.
Interesting they kept the firearm and computer charges with the CSAM charges. Adding insult to injury? Other than getting the gent fired, what did the registry do to prevent such actions here?
What do you want to bet that, by “producing,” they mean he just copied some files. If I were going to hijack a Jumbotron at a stadium, and knew I was going to get some “Jumbo-time” i.e. a couple of centuries of prison time, I would have let my imagination go a bit wild as it relates to “content” for that Jumbotron. That would have been such a missed opportunity, otherwise!
This is another example of “Hopelessness in action?” He lost his job because he’s a registrant, then he lost all hope for the future? Couldn’t face a lifetime of false hope crushed by his past? So…go nuts?
Get a gun, stack up some CP, hack into the Jumbotron, do the Hokey Pokey and turn yourself around… nothing matters anymore! Die in prison, die under a bridge, die in a motel bathroom with a rope around your neck… who cares?
When there is no future other than the specific circumstances of when, where, and how you die…then, just do… whatever, until then! People that have no future have no reason to restrain themselves. People with no future, because they can’t escape their past… get bitter.
If all this guy has to look forward to was an endless series of jobs taken away because of his past, separated by unemployment and maybe some homelessness… then F it…take the Die in Prison option… and have fun with it! Do absolutely whatever… before you have to go.
Similar to that Carjacking story… hopeless person just…loosing it? That guy wanted a car, and a “good reason” for ending his life in prison… this guy, little more random, but got some revenge for being fired?
I couldn’t read the full article. So why am I still getting the impression that if he were not a registrant, he wouldn’t have been criminally charged with anything and this story wouldn’t have even made the news?

Let me get this straight, instead of taking the layoff and filing for unemployment, he decides to hack into the Jumbotron with the same IP address that he used to surf the dark web to obtain illegal images, The same IP address that lead the FBI straight to his front door.
Then this narcissistic genius has a firearm just openly sitting on a night stand, He should’ve At least buried it in the backyard or something.

Were both Jaguar’s fans offended by what he put on the jumbotron?
What were to happen if he lived 221 more years? Would they release him?
He was lucky enough to score a job, even a decent job with a repulsive team is a job. A bad day at work is still a day at work. He got one job, he could have gotten another.
My gut feeling is that he was planning suicide by cop, he put the worm on the hook, and they took the bait and came straight to him. He either lost his nerve or they got the jump on him before he could set up a decent ambush.
